Kajiado County Commissioner (CC) Joshua Nkanatha has cautioned contractors undertaking government projects in the County to ensure projects are completed in time or risk termination of their contracts.
While touring various government projects together with County Development and Implementation Coordination Committee (CDICC) team in Kajiado North Constituency, the CC expressed his displeasure with the contractor undertaking the Rongai- Gataka-Bulbul road.
“I am not pleased by the progress of the Gataka-Bulbul road that has been allocated Sh2.7 billion. The contractor has done very little, the road should have been completed this month but as I have witnessed myself there is so much yet to be done,” Nkanatha said.
However he was pleased with the on-going maintenance works of the Isara-Mashuru ,Kajiado-Isinya-Kimuka road that is being undertaken at a cost of Sh 11billion.
“As a committee we are mandated to ensure that all government projects are taken with the seriousness that it deserves because as a government we don’t want to pay for air we must see and approve the work done before the contractor is paid,” he added.
The road is expected to ease congestion, as well as enhance the movement of people, goods and services between the two towns upon completion.
Later, the County Commissioner addressed a public Baraza at Embulbul, where he instructed the Kajiado North DCC to carry out a one month long operation to flush out all drug peddlers in the area.
“It is in my knowledge that this area has got some bad apples who are clouding the future of our children by selling them drugs as well as illicit brews therefore the DCC has only one month to flush them out and close all illicit brew dens an exercise that will involve all of us because the police need information from you,” he said.
The team also inspected the KPLC wind power project, Ngong hills where the government’s target of adding 5,000MW to the national grid, the 65km Rongai –Gataka-Bulbul road, Standard Gauge railway tunnel and the ongoing Ngong Market where the government has pumped in Sh 660 million.
The CC also oversaw the burning of Gaming machines that have become a menace that is making the youth idle and hence some of them were confiscated and burnt after the Baraza.
