Gucha receives Sh3.5 million worth of drugs to enhance service delivery

Following the launch of a digital drug supply system to all Sub County Hospitals in Kisii County, Gucha Sub County hospital received an assortment of drugs worth Sh3.5 million to enhance health services delivery.

While delivering the drugs to the facility, the area Member of the County Assembly (MCA), James Ondari expressed his delight at the county leadership for showing commitment to revamp the health sector in the region.

“The digital system launched by the county is a sure way of increasing accuracy and reducing theft of the drugs in our public hospitals. The rogue officers who had been engaging in the vice for personal gain while endangering the health of our people have been cornered,” Ondari noted.

The sub county public health officer Michael Oyunge addressed the impediments the facility employees have been facing that led to poor service delivery.

“Lack of drugs in hospitals has driven away locals from accessing professional treatment from experts, the trained clinical officers and doctors present here, as opposed to them seeking local traditional medicine from unqualified herbalists and African spiritualists who may not provide solutions to their health problems,” Oyunge said.

The facility, despite being a level four hospital, lacks transport facilities such as vehicles to transport drugs and even an ambulance for emergency services.

The health workers present also complained that they have not been paid for the last three months. They however promised to work in earnest as the county leadership addressed their grievances.
