Call for gov’t officials to work together in Makueni

There is need for all national and county government officials in Makueni County to work together to boost development, Makueni County Commissioner Beverly Opwora has said.

Opwora noted that working closely was key in sharing information and resources that would help the two levels of government supervise and coordinate service delivery to lower units of government.

“Nobody has ever succeeded in isolation. Working with the county government is key in delivering services to wananchi in the area,” said Ms. Opwora in her boardroom in Wote town when the Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo (Jnr) met national government heads of department on Tuesday evening.

The essence of the meeting was to chart on the areas the two levels of government can work together, especially in sharing resources and information that can enable seamless delivery of services to the people in the county.

“As good custodians, it is important to meet at two levels of government since we serve the same people and chart the way forward for the development of the county,” she reiterated.

On his part, Kilonzo (Jnr) said that the one government approach in delivering services was key in improving development in the area.

He observed that by working together, it will enable the offices spread all over the county to offer services to wananchi without caring which level of government one was serving from.

“The mentality of working in silos must end. There is synergy when we work together to deliver services to wananchi in the county,” he observed.

During the meeting, the governor assured the national government officials that his government will work closely with them while adding that he was ready to give resources to ensure the people of Makueni benefit from the two levels of government.

On investment, Kilonzo said his government was in top gear to make Wote a commercial town being the headquarters while adding that many investors were ready to invest in the town.

He revealed that he will lobby the national government to complete the construction of Wote stadium to promote sports especially for the youth in the county.

The governor was accompanied by his deputy Lucy Mulili, Executive Committee Member for Finance Mary Kimanzi and the County Secretary Rael Muthoka.
