War on illicit brews

One person has been arrested in Midland village in Oyugis town for being in possession of illicit brews.

The owner of a bar whose name was not given is said to have been operating a bar in the town selling beers alongside chang’aa and waragi gin.

Speaking to KNA in her office on Wednesday, the County Police Commander (CPC), Esther  Seroney said that the man was in possession of 20 litres of chang’aa and 24 sachets of waragi a brew imported from a neighboring country.

Seroney  confirmed that smuggling and selling of the brews was on the rise in the county with many cases being reported.

The  CPC said that the police are launching a search in every sub county within the county of Homa bay to ensure that all culprits are brought to book.

Seroney  added that the youths, being the target market for the illegal brew, should be warned on the side effects of the drugs they are consuming.

She  also said that members of the public should continue liaising with the police by giving them any lead that can enable them fight the drug menace.

The suspect is set to be arraigned at Oyugis law courts once investigations were complete.
