Sh280 million bus-park project to decongest Nakuru

The national government will put up a modern bus-park in Nakuru city to the tune of Sh280 million to decongest the city’s Central Business District.

The project is part of mega development projects that are being implemented in the city including both infrastructural, housing and urban development projects.

State Department for Housing and Urban Planning Principal Secretary Mr. Charles Hinga hailed Nakuru County for laying down good intergovernmental relations, a collaboration he said had seen construction of affordable housing units that are about to be completed.

Speaking during the launch of the 350-matatu capacity terminus, the PS voiced the government’s commitment to decongest the newly established city and called for cooperation from public transport players to ensure the project is completed on time.

While emphasizing on the need to ensure locals benefit from local projects, Hinga asked the project contractors to consider local youths and women while recruiting workers saying this will ensure the beneficiaries own the project for sustainability.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika assured that her government was keen to create a conducive environment for both local and international investors by upgrading the area infrastructure and giving other business incentives.

She said the newly found working relations between National government and Nakuru county government was already an incentive that would help spur economic growth and development in the devolved unit.

On the bus park project, Kihika said it will help in streamlining the public transport sector in addition to decongesting the CBD for better City planning.

She said the project will include putting up of decent trading spaces, shades, street lighting and waste collection points among other basic amenities to ensure security and comfort for the bus-park users.
