Murang’a Sports Excellence Academy Ltd (M-Seal) team on Saturday hammered Kisumu All-Stars 4:1 in round 11 of Sportpesa Shield Cup.
M-Seal was the first to score after half-time before Simon Ochieng of Kisumu stars equalizing in the 59th minute.
Kamau Wilson scored two more goals before Bathez Muriuki scoring the fourth goal sealing a win for M-Seal in game played at Kiharu Grounds in Murang’a town.
The matched dubbed Handshake Derby was number 11 in round 32 of the Sportpesa Shield Cup.
The visiting team led by their coach Francis Oduor accepted the defeat saying the match posed them a challenged to do more practice in preparation on going national league.
“This match was also a way for interaction with people from this region thus the name ‘handshake derby’,” said Oduor.
He said they will focus on remaining matches in Football Kenya Limited( FKL) Nationwide One league hoping to be included in premier league by next year.
“In FKL Nationwide One we are in position four and this match has given us a challenge as we need to work hard to be included in premier league,” said the coach.
M-Seal coach David Maina lauded his team for the win saying Kisumu All Stars is in upper division and the win was an encouragement as they prepare to play in remaining matches in division two.
“We are in position two in Division One and we are preparing to play Kariobangi Sharks on Wednesday and am sure with this spirit we will win,” added Maina.
M-Seal team, he noted has been performing well in the national league and the good performance and big support from fans, will see them elevated to a higher division.
Speaking after the match, Football Kenya Federation Arberdare Region Chairman Davis Chege, lauded M-Seal team for winning the match.
He decried poor stadiums within Murang’a and Kiambu counties challenging devolved governments to improve playgrounds.
“The grounds where matches are being played are not of required standards and as we are geared to nurture talents among young people, we yearn for better stadiums,” noted Chege.
He added that FKF is committed to identify and nurture talents from grassroots saying they have organised many local grassroots competitions to give young boys chances to build up their talents.
