Kericho’s new governor to prioritize healthcare

Kericho Governor Dr. Eric Mutai has stressed the need to prioritize the improvement of the health sector.

He was speaking during a ceremony organized in his honor at Kericho County Government Offices after he assumed his new role as the county’s CEO – a role he is taking over from the immediate former Governor Prof. Paul Chepkwony who served his two constitutionally permitted terms since 2013.

During the meeting with the members of the County Executive together with Departmental Heads, Dr. Mutai shared his work plan and desires going forward with regards to service delivery.

“All sectors are important and I will give them the requisite attention but our emphasis shall lay on the life-touching sectors top most being Health department,” reiterated Dr. Mutai.

He further said he will put forth his case at the County Assembly in the coming days as he seeks to find a common ground in regards to his plans and priorities going forward.

Dr. Mutai who was accompanied by his Deputy Eng. Fred Kirui assured all county government employees of a smooth transition promising them job security.

“All employees from the county headquarters to our offices and facilities at the local level have my protection as the county C.E.O and I will demand services from them in conformity with the existing service charters and performance contracts” stressed Dr. Mutai

He also held a brief meeting with his predecessor Prof. Chepkwony as he handed over his duties at the county offices. Dr. Mutai assured the outgoing governor that he was committed to building on his successes even as he initiates his own programmes.

“We are grateful to the previous administration for the selfless services they offered. We will tap on their input and experiences even as we add on board new members to steer our great County forward” Dr. Mutai said.

Dr. Mutai and his Deputy Eng. Fred Kirui were Thursday sworn in to the gubernatorial posts in a solemn ceremony held at Kericho Green Stadium where the oath of office was administered by Lady Justice Roseline Korir.
