Wambora loses Senate Seat

Outgoing Embu Governor and Council of Governors (CoG) chair Martin Wambora has lost his senatorial bid after emerging fifth with 13, 523 votes.

The contest was won by little known Alexander Mundigi of the Democratic Party (DP) who floored 11 other candidates after garnering 81, 162 votes.

Wambora who has been termed as “the governor with nine lives” did not survive the onslaught by the voters this time round after surviving four impeachment attempts from 2014 and successfully challenged all of them in court and won.

It was a double blow for the outgoing two-term governor who was running on his Umoja Na Maendeleo Party ticket after none of the candidates fielded by the party in all the Ward Representative seats won.

His Deputy David Kariuki was also not spared despite running on the most popular United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in the county by emerging second with 55, 695 votes.

Jubilee Party’s Lilian Mbogo came third with 22,851 votes followed by the incumbent Njeru Ndiwiga running as an Independent candidate with 17, 111 votes.

Another notable public figure in the contest was former Kamukunji MP Norman Nyaga who emerged sixth with 9, 387 votes as an Independent candidate.
