Maara constituency MP Kareke Mbiuki (UDA) has retained his seat for the fourth term after garnering 26,985 votes against his main rival Bongo Lawrence of Jubilee party who got 21,706 votes.
Others in the race were Micheni Sammy Kamundi 785, Miriti Farida Ngatha, Marangu Carls Mwandiki 149, Nyaga Miriti 185, and Salome Kagendo 518.
Speaking at Chogoria boys tallying centre after being declared winner by Maara constituency Returning Officer Nelson Njiru Naamu, the MP thanked the residents for giving him another chance to serve them.
“I want to thank the great people of Maara constituency for giving me the opportunity to serve them for the fourth term which will be my last,” he said.
The MP thanked residents for maintaining peaceful elections and promised to serve diligently. He further assured that he will work with all elected leaders despite which party they are affiliated in to serve the people of Maara.
“We will embrace each other and work together with all leaders despite their political affiliation to be able to deliver the mandate of the people of Maara,” he said.
Mbiuki thanked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and all stakeholders involved for the smooth and peaceful elections.
Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) who emerged winners were also awarded certificates by the RO this afternoon.
They included Kiruia Anderson Njeru (Mitheru Ward) with 1669 votes, Gitonga Morris Maugu (Muthambi Ward) with 4341 votes, Kabii Jones Kinegeni (Mwimbi) with 4167, Mbae Lysbeth Gatiria (Gatanga Ward) with 4600 votes and Nyaga Frankline Mawira (Chogoria Ward) with 4261 votes.
They also thanked the IEBC for the peaceful and credible elections.
