Ford Kenya has swept most of the elective seats in Bungoma as rebels who ditched the party to form a new outfit, DAP-K, failed to see the light of day in Tuesday’s general elections.
DAP-K boss Wafula Wamunyinyi, Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and Dr. Eseli Simiyu wanted to oust senator Moses Wetang’ula but all the three have lost to Ford Kenya contestants.
“I told you that those coup plotters won’t push me from Ford Kenya, I promised them that they must be defeated in this elections which has happened,” Wetangula said.
Ford Kenya is back on its feet as the Governor elect, Woman representative, Senator and four MPs have won elections as declared by the IEBC.
The four Ford Kenya MPs elect announced by the IEBC include John Makali (Kanduyi constituency) who garnered 32,099 votes, Martin Wanyonyi (Webuye East), with 12,864 votes, Majimbo Kalasinga, (Kabuchai) 37,627 votes, and Murumba Chikati (Tongaren) with 20,689 votes.
Speaking to the press at Kanduyi constituency tallying center on Thursday, Senator Wetang’ula expressed his satisfaction with the results. He said his team campaigned aggressively in Bungoma to ensure that they deliver 70 percent to the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
“What we agreed with our Presidential candidate William Ruto is that we deliver 70 percent to the coalition and indeed we have managed to do so,” Wetang’ula said.
Wetang’ula lauded Bungoma residents for believing in him and honoring his call to vote for the Kenya Kwanza aspirants in Tuesday’s election.
“I want to say a big thank you to you as my supporters for ensuring that you vote for our Kenya Kwanza candidates,” he said.
He said that the outgoing county administration led by Governor Wycliffe Wangamati failed residents affirming that with incoming governor elect Ken Lusaka, the County leadership and the national government will be able to revamp the economy of Bungoma by injecting cash to Nzoia sugar to ensure that the factory is up and running.
“Preliminary results that the IEBC has projected and announced in various polling stations in the county indicate that I am leading. We are only waiting for the commission to issue an official announcement then we call it a day,” he said.
John Makali, the Kanduyi MP elect too thanked Kanduyi residents for backing his parliamentary bid. He has promised to serve and support various programs in the constituency.
He added that during the campaign period his rivals imposed many allegations on him asking his supporters to put all that behind and work with him to ensure that Kanduyi moves to the next level.
Wetang’ula wished the outgoing Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati, former Ford Kenya secretary General Dr. Eseli Simiyu and DAP-K party leader Wafula Wamunyinyi well as they exit offices.
Bungoma County returning officer Grace Rono told the press that she will be announcing senatorial, Woman MP and gubernatorial results before the end of the day asking the public to remain calm.
“Be patient. I am only waiting for the results from some constituencies once they upload them. I will be able to collate and tally and announce,” she said.
