A parent at Sawagongo High School in Siaya appeared in court on Wednesday charged with presenting a forged banking slip to the institution.
Peter Adindo Osino was accused of issuing his son, a student at the school, with a forged Sh.20, 000 banking slip from the National Bank of Kenya, Bungoma branch, for payment of school fees payment.
The School Bursar, Erick Oduor told Siaya Senior Resident Magistrate (SRM), Tom Olando that the student (name withheld) presented him with the slip early this year but he realized that the document was suspicious and on interrogation, the student said he was given it by his father.
The Bursar said that he contacted the father, who visited the school on 26th January, 2019 and after discussion, he claimed that he could have been conned by a friend whom he had sent to deposit the money.
Oduor said he called police from Yala police station and handed over the suspect.
An attempt to drop the charges against the parent failed to materialize in court, when the SRM said the prosecution or the school had no powers to withdraw the charges.
“Forgery allegations are of interest to the state thus cannot be withdrawn on flimsy grounds,” said Olando.
The hearing will continue on May 8, 2019.
