Former Ainabkoi MP Paul Chepkonga has recaptured Ainabkoi parliamentary seat after garnering 26,479 votes against the incumbent William Chepkut who managed to get 13,510.
Chepkonga, the UDA candidate who was dethroned by Chepkut during the 2017 elections as an independent candidate was declared the winner Thursday morning by the constituency returning officer Eunice Maru.
Chepkut conceded defeat and thanked voters for giving him the opportunity to serve them for five years.
In the gubernatorial race, UDA’s Jonathan Chelilim received 22708 votes followed closely by Zedekiah Bundotich who managed to garner 20,455 in the constituency that was considered to be his stronghold. William Kirwa of UDM managed 772 votes.
In the senate seat, Jackson Mandago (UDA) had 29559 votes followed by Robert Kemei with 14401 in the Ainabkoi constituency.
In the Presidential vote, UDA’s William Ruto garnered 35401 with Azimio’s Raila Odinga getting 8620 votes.
In Moiben constituency Prof. Phylis Bartoo (UDA) was declared the winner with 40,892 relegating the current MP Silas Tiren and former MP Joseph Lagat who managed to get 8,790 and 6784 respectively. The IEBC constituency returning officer Erastus Orwa declared the results last night.
Results for Soy, Kapseret, and Kesses constituencies are yet to be announced although UDA candidates in the three constituencies, Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), CPA Julius Ruto (Kesses), Janet Sitienei (Turbo), and David Kiplagat (Soy) were on the lead in provisional results.
Prof. Bartoo thanked the voters in Moiben for electing her saying they had proved that they looked at her as a leader and not as a woman. “I appreciate the blessing from the women, elders, and the youth of Moiben,” said the former Egerton University Don.
The final results for Senate, Governor, Woman Rep are expected to be announced today (Thursday) according to the IEBC county returning officer Irene Mutai.
