Siaya Senator, James Orengo, has taken an early lead in the Siaya gubernatorial contest, garnering 60,723 votes in Alego – Usonga Constituency.
The results declared by Alego – Usonga Constituency Returning Office, saw Orengo, the Orange Democratic Movement candidate, beat his closest rival, Nicholas Gumbo of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) in all Polling Stations within the Constituency.
Gumbo managed 23,792 votes in the vast Constituency, followed by United Democratic Alliance (UDA’s), Millicent Adhiambo Oduor, who polled 772 votes. Independent candidate, William Ochieng Otieno pulled the tail with 252 votes.
In the Senate contest, East Africa Legislative Assembly Member, Dr. Oburu Oginga of ODM, led with 69,765 votes.
Independent candidate, Julius Okong’o Okinda, trailed him with 7,085 while another Independent Candidate, Tony Yogo Yogo was third with 4,250 votes.
Oscar Omondi Onyango of DAPK followed with 2,750 as James Wamban Otieno got 1,282 and took fourth position. Last was Ismael Atudo Otieno with 335 votes.
In the Woman Representative seat, incumbent Dr. Christine Ombaka (ODM) was leading with 50,639 votes, followed by radio journalist, Sellah Ayimba (Movement for Democracy and Growth), who garnered 29,933.
In the third position was Mildred Atieno Ochieng with 2,183 votes, followed by Emma Akinyi Ogola, who polled 2,044 votes.
Siaya has six constituencies and with the results from only one constituency, the contestants will have to wait for the results from Ugenya, Ugunja, Gem, Rarieda and Bondo constituencies to know their fate.
Tallying continues at the County Tallying Centre in Siaya.
