Wetangula wants IEBC to hasten vote counting

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has urged the IEBC to increase the pace of vote tallying that is currently underway to lessen anxiety among the public.

He at the same time asked the public and Kenya Kwanza supporters to be calm as the exercise progresses.

Speaking at Kanduyi constituency tallying center on Wednesday, Wetang’ula commended the electoral body for delivering a fairly peaceful voting process.

“I congratulate IEBC for the good work during vote casting but urge them to speed up the vote tallying exercise so that the public gets to know the outcome of their votes,” the Ford Kenya leader said.

In Tongaren Constituency, long serving MP Dr Eseli Simiyu who lost to a new entrant John Murumba conceded defeat.

Wetangula lauded Dr Simiyu who also served as Ford Kenya party Secretary General for graciously accepting defeat.

He asked Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi who has also lost to lawyer John Makali of Ford Kenya, to accept the poll outcome.

“I want Wamunyinyi to emulate Dr. Eseli and stop using hired goons to jeopardize the proceedings of the IEBC,” Wetang’ula said.

Wetang’ula alleges that the MP hired goons who destroyed election materials in some polling stations.

“The important thing is for Wamunyinyi to accept defeat and go home with dignity,” he said, adding that if Wamunyinyi continues to digress, he will ruin his future political career.

Wetang’ula said Kenya Kwanza is performing fairly well and he is optimistic of Ruto winning the Presidential elections.

“Although tallying is still underway, we also have our results as Kenya Kwanza,” Wetang’ula noted.

He noted that they are only waiting for the official announcement by IEBC.

“At county level, we have all the forms reflecting our results therefore if there is anybody who is planning to manipulate the results, then it is not possible,” he said.
