Narok authorities arrest officials over malpractice

Two presiding officers in Narok County were arrested over alleged involvement in election malpractice, Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde has said.

Masinde said a presiding officer was arrested in Narok East Sub County over the irregularities while another one was held for questioning in Narok North Constituency and is likely to be arraigned in court.

Masinde who spoke from his office said the two were trying to swap votes meant for a gubernatorial candidate to favour another candidate.

The CC confirmed that security had been beefed up in the seven tallying centers in the county to ensure that the election process was completed smoothly.

He called upon the residents to continue to maintain peace and wait patiently for the election outcome in their homes.

“There is no need to crowd at the tallying centers. Let the chief agents, candidates and the media be the only people at the tallying centers to give IEBC a conducive environment to do their job,” he said.

At the same time, Narok North Constituency tallying at Maasai Girls’ Secondary school was halted for one hour after gubernatorial candidate Moitalel Ole Kenta stormed the station alleging the process was not credible.

Tallying however resumed after the police led by Narok North Sub County Police commander Frederick Shiundu intervened.
