Four Held Over Poll Offences

Four suspects were arrested for violating electoral related offences during the Tuesdays polls at various polling centres in Kisii County.

County Police Commander Dr. Musyoki Mutungi said three of the suspects were found ferrying ballot materials in the wee hours of the morning when police officers and IEBC officials intercepted their vehicle and impounded the materials.

Mutungi said also said the police were investigating an incident in which a resident sustained injuries after he was reportedly shot on the eve of elections day under unclear circumstances.

In a related incident, the Police Commander said that a sitting MCA for Kiogoro Ward Walter Obare Mochache’s supporters clashed with those of their competitors, before police moved with speed and restored order.

He said there were enough security officers deployed in all tallying centres to ensure peaceful exercise even as the clock ticks focus to the County tallying centre at the Kisii national Polytechnic, where the final tally will be done except those which must be done at the national centre.

He assured residents that everything was in control with the police receiving reinforcement from the relevant agencies.
