Garissa Governor Ali Korane has alleged a vote rigging plot in Dadaab constituency by unnamed local politicians.
Addressing the press this morning at his Garissa residence, Korane claimed that his rival had hatched a plot manipulate elections results after they sensed defeat.
His claims comes after chaos were reported in at least two polling stations in which one person was killed and scores of others injured.
“We have this morning received information that some politicians flew to Dadaab from Garissa Town to try and influence the vote counting exercise for governor’s seat,” Korane said.
“About 9,000 people voted in Dadaab yesterday but they are attempting to convince the constituency returning officer to change those figures to around 26,000. There is a standoff as we talk now because I think the RO is resisting the attempt,” he alleged.
Korane who is defending his seat on a Jubilee ticket against former governor Nathif Jama of ODM said that he had informed the IEBC on the matter to take the necessary action.
“We condemn any attempt to rig or interfere with this election and we are not going to accept it. The voters’ biometric details are captured on the IEBC Kiems kit before voting and we will only accept the numbers that are captured thereafter,” he said.
