Police in Bungoma have launched a manhunt for Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa in relation to a shooting incident that saw one man killed.
Bungoma County Commissioner, Samuel Kimiti has confirmed that the incident happened at a polling station in Chebukwabi, Kimlili Constituency which the MP represents.
The deceased, Brian Olunga was an aid to an aspiring MP candidate on a DAP Kenya ticket, Brian Khaemba.
According to Khaemba who reported the matter to Kimlili Sub County Police, the incident happened at around 6 pm when they had gone to Chebukwabi polling station to witness the counting of votes.
He recorded that he met Didmus Barasa, the incumbent MP for Kimilili constituency and after about three minutes, he, (Khaemba) decided to leave for another station and headed to his car Reg. No. KCR 050J.
He recorded that the MP followed him in the company of four men that he ordered not to allow him to leave the place adding that his driver Joshua Nasokho defied the order and ignited the vehicle.
Khaemba said it was at that point that Mr Barasa drew a pistol and shot his aide, Brian Olunga on the forehead.
“He bled profusely and was rushed to Kimilili sub-county hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment,” Khaemba added.
Kimiti said the body was moved to Kimilili sub county hospital morgue and urged the public to stay calm as police do their work, promising that justice will be served.
