Voters turn out in large numbers in Moyale

All the 162 Polling Centers in Moyale Constituency opened at 6 am with voters turning out in large numbers at their respective Polling Centers ready to vote for their preferred candidates.

Moyale Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer, Jephitha Mauta, said a total of 66,468 registered voters are expected to elect their leaders within the Seven Wards which are within the Constituency.

Mauta said the turnout in many polling centers was impressive because long queues of voters were being witnessed in every polling center to participate in the 2022 General Elections.

The Returning Officer was however quick to say that the only challenge the Polling Officials were getting was that of identifying some elderly people through KIEMS kits before, voting and that the matter has been reported to the relevant authorities for action to be taken.

“There are other means of identifying voters whose finger prints have failed and in this case, Manual Registers will not be used as the Court directed, yesterday, the use of Manual Registers,” Mauta said.

The Returning Officer said that the Moyale GK Prisons had only registered six voters when going to press, only two had turned out to vote within the facility, but added that the Polling Center will not be closed down until voting hours elapse at 5:00pm.

On security, the Moyale Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Stanley Too, who is the Chairman of the Moyale Sub-County Security Committee assured residents that the government has put in place all the necessary measures to ensure that voters participate in voting without being threatened by anyone.

“Voters should go home after casting their votes, security personnel manning polling centers should not entertain idlers within the proximity of the Polling Station” Too said.

The DCC, however, advised the voters to vote wisely because they will only have a chance of electing other leaders after five years.
