As election kicked-off countrywide, many areas reported no hitches whereas others had some challenges with the Kenya integrated Election Management system (KIEMS) kit.
In Makueni Wiper Party Gubernatorial Candidate, Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr, said IEBC should provide alternative complementary mechanism to enable every Kenyan to vote when Kiems kit fails.
Speaking at Uma Primary School Polling Station at Mbooni Constituency, Kilonzo said IEBC is taking a lot of time to give directions on failure of Kiems Kits that has been reported in Kibwezi Constituency that is making Voters impatient.
“IEBC should have a complementary alternative way for verifying voters when Kiems Kit fails to enable voters not identified electronically to vote,” said Kilonzo.
Consequently, the Governor aspirant have appealed to Commission to compensate the time lost due to the failure of Kiems kits in some of the Polling Stations in Kibwezi West
In Nakuru Bahati MP, Kimani Ngunjiri, cast his vote at Kiamaina Polling Station and called on all aspirants to accept the people’s verdict at the end of the exercise.
Ngunjiri expressed satisfaction with the glow of the exercise and commended IEBC for the smooth running of the exercise in his Constituency.
Ngunjiri noted that there were a few challenges of finger print identification for some of the voters and especially those who work in quarries and urged the polls body to use other means to identify them and therefore give them a chance to exercise their Democratic right to vote.
In Mwala, Returning Officer, Collins Mutua, speaking to KNA said voting started at around 6am in majority of the 220 polling stations.
“Apart from the normal delays no major issue has been reported, the KIEMS kits are working well. Only a few incidents of voters not being identified by the kits, especially the elderly has been reported,’’ said Mutua.
He said voting was going on smoothly across the sub county and expressed his confidence that by evening results will start trickling in.
