Security beefed up in Kakamega as the country gears for the Poll

Adequate security arrangements have been put in place in Kakamega County as residents gear-up to go to the General Election tomorrow.

County Commissioner, John Ondego, however, cautioned that anybody who may attempt to disrupt or interfere with the electioneering will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“We want to warn anybody, be they candidates or hired goons who may disrupt the exercise that they will be dealt with firmly,” he cautioned.

Speaking to the media after chairing a county security meeting in his office, today, Mr. Ondego said security has been enhanced at all polling stations, as well as security patrols intensified to ensure the process is successful.

The County Commissioner warned some individuals who are reported to have circulated some leaflets in parts of Likuyani Sub County, threatening a particular community to vacate, saying this will not be tolerated.

“These are residents of that area and are registered voters there, they must vote” he said.

Ondego urged voters to turn- up in large numbers and cast their voters and go back home to wait for results.

He said only those authorized by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), will be allowed at the centres.

“Only party agents enlisted by IEBC, observers, and the media and security personnel will be allowed to monitor the exercise at Polling Station,” he said.
