The 469,053 registered voters in Migori County are up-beat and anxious to vote peacefully during tomorrow’s polls to choose their favorable leaders in a free and fair elections.
Voters in the eight constituencies say they are in their best mood and will wake up as early as 3am to throng the 1,070 polling centres across the county to elect their leaders.
A spot-check within the constituencies today revealed an enthusiast support for various candidates ranging from Member of County Assembly, Woman Representative, Member of National Parliament, Member of Senate, gubernatorial and the highest seat; the President.
Interviews with various voters in Awendo, Uriri, Rongo, Nyatike, Suna West, Suna East, Kuria West and Kuria East Constituencies found that many of the local voters were interested most in the Presidential Contest where former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga and present Deputy President, William Ruto are the front runners on Azimio La Umoja One Kenya and Kenya Kwanza Coalition tickets respectively.
At the same time, plans are already in motion to have routine checkups on people using the public transport including matatus, boda bodas and boats to ensure they have voted, by checking the indelible ink on their fingers, in order to have a 100 per cent voting rate in the region.
While the electoral office has confirmed distributing all election materials and officials to polling centers, security for the voters especially at the voting stations has also been enhanced.
Migori County Police Commander Mr. Mark Wanjala assured of enough police personnel not only at the polling centres but also to the general public in towns, markets, villages and at home.
The Vice Chairman of National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) Bishop John Okinda called on the County residents to embrace peace during and after voting saying violence because of losing an election was a recipe for destruction for all the gains the nation has achieved in the past.
