Police in Nakuru have arrested a 34-year-old man believed to be the coordinator of a wave of criminal activities perpetrated by the dreaded Confirm gang.
Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwanzo said Dickson Macharia Waithera alias Diko was flushed out of his hideout at Kivumbini phase 4 estate in Nakuru, following a tip off from members of the public.
He said a contingent of DCI, intelligence and general duty officers raided the estate and arrested the suspect said to be one of the members of the ‘royal family’ that started the Confirm gang and have been coordinating all criminal activities under the said group across the country.
Mwanzo disclosed that the suspect allegedly succeeded his elder brother identified as Biggy, who was the founder and general commander of the Confirm organised criminal group and who was killed by police sometimes back.
The police boss said the gang was using Nakuru as their criminal hub and hideout, and was behind recruitment of young inmates into criminal activities including on-line fraud, drug-trafficking and robberies across the country.
Mwanzo said in Nakuru alone, the suspect was coordinating a network of more than 200 criminals who would congregate at his residence in Kivumbini every morning to collect the drugs for distribution across the city and its environs in addition to engaging in robberies before submitting the proceeds to the suspect in the evening.
During the raid, police managed to recover a consignment of Bhang with a street value of over Sh331, 000, Sh5000 in cash, a number of laptops and mobile phones, and some crude weapons.
Mwanzo said the suspect will be arraigned in court tomorrow and police have commenced investigations into the criminal network.
