Gov’t initiates new Muthambi sub-county

The government has launched the new Muthambi sub-county in Tharaka Nithi County as a way of bringing services closer to the people in the vast Maara sub county.

The administrative unit which was carved out of Maara Sub County will soon be fully operational like any other sub-county.

Speaking during the launch, Eastern Regional Commissioner, Evans Achoki said the government is unveiling the administrative unit in order to bring services closer to the community.

“With operationalisation of the sub-county, all requisite government services will soon be available in the area,” he noted, adding deployment of security officers will in turn boost the region’s security.

“The security here will improve as we will have all commanders in charge of security come here,” he said.

Achoki further noted that the Deputy County Commissioner of Muthambi has already been deployed and is working.

The RC expressed that residents will no longer have to travel long distances to receive government services as different offices are set to be open.

“We will have officers from the Identification Card (ID) office here, those from birth and death, education among others and they will all be providing services for the people here, no need to travel anymore,” he said.

The Regional Commissioner explained that the new sub county will create employment for youths through recruitment of police officers which will be carried out in the place.

He also urged residents to take the opportunity and build more houses and restaurants as the area expands economically.

Achoki also confirmed that this initiative will help resolve the issue concerning funds meant for the elderly as they will now access it through the sub-county offices.

While at it, the RC thanked all the politicians in attendance for conducting peaceful elections and urged everyone to maintain peace during the elections next week.

The business community appreciated the work done by the government noting that this will boost creation of more roads as well as employment opportunities in the region.

Some of the leaders present included Tharaka Nithi County Commissioner Norbert Komora, Tharaka Nithi governor Muthomi Njuki, Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki, Gubernatorial candidate and former Chuka University Vice Chancellor Prof Erastus Njoka among other government and political leaders.
