Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has said plans are underway to upgrade Shianda and Makunga hospitals in Mumias to level four facilities.
He also said Mumias Sugar Company that closed its doors will start crushing canes in two weeks’ time, without further delay.
Oparanya said provision of quality health care services was his priority and that is why the County government has invested in health facilities and employing staffs in the region.
“Shianda and Makunga health centres will soon be upgraded to Level Four facilities to be able to serve residents who have been travelling long distances to seek medical services,” he said.
The Governor who was addressing County staff drawn from the Sub County said he was happy that his tireless efforts to revive Mumias Sugar Company was paying off as the Mill is in the process of starting cane crushing.
“I promised that before I leave office Mumias Sugar Company must resume its operations. I am happy that in two weeks’ time they will start producing sugar,” he added.
The Governor took his time to narrate the struggle he has gone through to have the factory resume sugar production including court battles that he said cost millions of shillings.
He said he was not a leader who would use the revival of the Mill for political interests, but wanted the factory to operate to serve residents.
