A man and a woman were on Thursday charged in a Kericho court for being in possession of fake special papers and equipment used to make Kenyan currency notes.
Yegon Kipronoh and Diana Chepkoech appeared before Kericho Senior Resident Magistrate, Solomon Ng’etich charged with being in possession of papers and implements of forgery.
The two pleaded not guilty to the charges and were each released on a bond of Sh. 100,000 with a surety of a similar amount or pay a cash bail of Sh. 50,000.
They were nabbed by police officers at Shell Petrol station on the Kericho-Nakuru highway following a tip off on March 5th, this year following a dramatic car chase.
Particulars of the charge stated that the two accused without lawful authority, permission or excuse, knowingly, had in their possession papers intended to resemble and pass as special papers used in making 185 fake currency notes of Sh. 1,000 Kenyan currency notes.
The court prosecution revealed that Kipronoh and Chepkoech were found with two syringes, 50ml Iodine liquid, half litre oil, one cello tape and two rolls of aluminum foil intended to pass as special papers such as are provided and used in making counterfeit currency notes.
Kipronoh raised the cash bail and was released from custody whereas Chepkoech was taken to the Kericho GK women prison after failing to secure her release on bond or cash bail terms.
The case will be mentioned on March 22, 2019 for pretrial directions.
