The price of maize has gone down from Sh200 per two kg to Sh150 at Awasi market in Nyando Sub-county.
Traders at the market are selling a 90kg bag of maize which is a favourite meal to most residents at sh6, 000 from sh8, 000 a week ago.
A spot check by KNA established that the residents are buying maize in larger quantities, unlike in the last two weeks when they were buying in smaller measures, due to the high price.
Susan Akinyi one of the traders told KNA that the drop in the price had been occasioned by the recent maize harvest.
She said that the old crop is now out of stock and that they were now selling maize sourced from the local community.
The price of beans ranges from Sh250 to Sh300 depending on the variety while a two-kilogram measure of rice is selling at Sh320.
Other grains like groundnuts are available at the market at sh300 per two kilo measure and green grams are selling at sh250 per same measure.
