CS Tobiko calls for peace ahead of the August poll

The Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary (CS), Keriako Tobiko, has urged Kenyans to maintain peace before, during and after the August 9, General Election.

Speaking in Kilgoris where he presided over issuance of title deeds to residents, Tobiko said election was a one-day exercise which will come and go, urging Kenyans to resist the temptation of engaging each other in suspicion and violence.

In reference to the 2007 post-election violence where property was destroyed and lives lost, the CS reminded of the harsh lessons the country went through.

“We cannot afford to go back to the dark days of 2007/8. As we head into next month’s election, Kenyans need to be reminded that it is the responsibility of each and every one to ensure peace is maintained,” he said.

Saying that voting is a constitutional obligation and no Kenyan above the age of 18 should be denied. Tobiko reminded of the need to make informed choices and vote visionary leaders.

Kilgoris Legislator, Gideon Konchellah said that he is ready to hand over the seat he has held for 20 years to a leader the majority of the electorate will pick.

However, he advised residents to elect a leader who can continue with the development agenda his tenure embraced.
