KECOSO Golf Tournament kicks-off

Kericho County is today hosting the 41st Edition of the Kenya Communication Sports Organization (KECOSO) games, which return after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The curtain-raiser tournament of the main games draws more than 100 golfers from 14 member organizations and the greater Western Region.

Speaking during the event at the Kericho Golf Club the ICT Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru, who graced the official opening of the golfing tournament this morning said the significance of the tournament is to create a spirit of togetherness within government institutions in engaging in sporting activities.

This he said will not only enhance their physical health but also create an environment for connectivity amongst the government workers both at the national and the county level.

“Not everything has to be work always and that people need to also do exercise and engage in sports, this will enhance their physical health and rejuvenate them to work better and smarter thus enhancing government service delivery.” said Mr. Mucheru

The CS said that 14 organizations are participating in the 41st KECOSO tournament, noting that it has not been held for long due to the Covid-19 pandemic which stopped all activities associated with socialization and being close to one another in the country.

“Today’s tournament being held in Kericho signifies that we are back to normal.” ICT CS added.

The CS urged Kenyans across the political divide to embrace peace and unity as we approach the August 9th General Election, saying that we all have one County that we need to jealously protect.

Meanwhile, the KECOSO Secretary General, Omole Asiko, said the first tee-off kicked off at 7:30am today and the event being sponsored by the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA), adding that the main games which are scheduled for 24th to 29th July features 12 disciplines including athletics, golf, snooker, swimming, basketball, football, darts, pool, scrabble, volleyball, netball and table-tennis to be held in Kericho County.

“We are happy that we are back to promoting sports amongst member organizations and across Kenya. Golf is a start of quality sports Kenyans expect from us,” said Asiko.

Kericho’s choice was factored based on several parameters including hotel capacity to host participants and officials, security and safety arrangements, county readiness and commitment to host the games.
