Orphan pleas to foot Hospital Bill

A family in Gangre Village, Rangwe Sub-County is appealing to well-wishers to help them raise Sh1.1 million hospital bill for their son.

The 24-year-old Maurice Odhiambo Okumu, an orphan under the care of his uncle, has been undergoing treatment for an acute kidney ailment at Bosongo Medical Centre in Kisii.

Speaking to KNA, John Odhiambo Owuora, the uncle, said Maurice was first admitted at St. Lawrence Hospital in Rangwe for three days after complaining of severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with Typhoid before he was referred to Kisii Level 5 Hospital.“It all started when he began complaining of severe pains in the abdomen after which I rushed him to St. Lawrence hospital but later was referred to Kisii Level 5 Hospital for further treatment,” narrated Owuora.

The condition got worse and after undergoing a special diagnosis at the care and cure unit, he was again referred to Bosongo Medical Centre in Kisii where he is currently receiving treatment.

The bill at the facility has accumulated to Sh1.1 million shillings which the family has only managed to raise a total of Sh454, 000 from friends and relatives.

According to Orato Ogoti, Medical Officer at the facility, Maurice was admitted at their hospital on the 16th of May where he was diagnosed with an absolute extremis with severe peritonitis, where visceral perforation was suspected.

“He had an acute kidney injury and needed urgent stabilization in ICU, that is, haemodialysis which is the right setting being surgically treated for source control,” Ogoti stated in a letter.

The uncle pleaded with well-wishers, especially the current political aspirants, to assist them in settling the accumulating bill, adding that any amount would enormously help.

The young man was undertaking his studies at Maseno University in his second year of study pursuing a Degree in Agricultural Education and Extension.
