Laikipia records an increase of 8 pc on revenue collection

Laikipia County Government has recorded 8 percent growth in its own source revenue collection for the Financial Year 2021-2022 as compared to previous year.

Speaking to the media on Monday while releasing the financial results in Nanyuki, Laikipia Revenue Board Chief Executive Officer Prudence Waithera said the collections were Sh903, 887,923 million as compared to Sh840, 396,633 million that was collected last Financial Year (FY).

“Through internal engagements with the various departments, the board was able to come up with new strategies which were significant in improving the revenue performance,” said Waithera.

She noted cumulative revenue collection had also doubled in the last seven years from Sh482, 151,083 million In the Financial Year 2015/2016 to Sh903, 887,923 million this FY which represents 87 percent revenue growth.

“External engagements with citizens through public participation has been a key pillar in driving revenue growth due to deepened ownership, acceptable and in turn improved compliance,” she added.

She further said, growth of own source revenue collection had transformed into development projects in the county including upgrading and rebranding of the Laikipia Health Service, the Smart Town Initiatives in Nanyuki, Nyahururu, Rumuruti and other towns within the county.

“Accelerated infrastructure and roads programmes, water for production, investment, innovations and enterprise developments. Notably, an improved credit rating has contributed immensely to our ability to engage with new resource mobilisation avenues with infrastructure bonds being a notable pioneer success,” revealed Waithera.

Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi lauded residents for continued paying of revenues aimed at enhancing developments in the county.

“Growing revenue over 100 percent in the last seven years is an incredible effort and you have shown by example what can and should be done in order to ensure proper management of own source revenue,” said Muriithi.
