Nyamira achieves 100pc CBC classrooms construction

Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Prof. George Magoha has lauded Nyamira County school principals for achieving 100 per cent completion of constructing Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms ready to accommodate junior secondary students next year.

The CS made this commendation Friday while laying the foundation stone for construction of a modern storey dormitory at St. Kizito Nyansiongo Boys High school in Nyamira to accommodate the surging number of students in the institution who have converted their dining hall into a dormitory.

“CBC system is here to stay and as the Cabinet Secretary for Education, I will ensure that the president’s directive is implemented to the letter. Those politicking that it will die immediately new government comes into power in August are mistaken because the government has invested heavily to capacity build teachers and construct classrooms in ensuring smooth transition of this new curriculum.” Magoha stated.

“There is nothing perfect, all we do is our best and those who will be in government come September will have the capacity to improve from what we will have started all for the best interest of our children because they are our future heritage which we cannot afford to spoil this early,” Said the CS.

The CS assured that he is working round the clock with colleagues to ensure that challenged counties like Bungoma which are at 97 per cent completion of CBC classrooms are at par with other counties for learners to be assured of a safe learning environment when they join their junior secondary level of study.

Prof. Magoha encouraged school principals present during the function to remain steadfast in ensuring that all the children under their care get the best education, are disciplined appropriately and nurtured in the right manner to produce responsible citizens once they are out of school.

He further challenged parents to take time to talk with their children, counsel them on the importance of maintaining right discipline in school, correct their bad behavior and explain to them what you are capable of providing as parents and their financial limitations.

“Some parents have the audacity of taking teachers to court when their children have been disciplined in school but I want to clarify that for any child who cannot comply with school regulations, teacher have the powers to discipline as stipulated by the ministry of education because condoning indiscipline in learning institutions is guaranteeing failure in that particular school,” Mogha warned.

The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, Dr. Fred Matiang’i who was present thanked professionals from the Gusii community for the support they are giving in ensuring that schools in the region are face-lifted structurally and children from their areas are supported to pursue their dream careers as they grow in the education system.

“The best a professional can do is to empower the young ones so that they can readily take our positions when we have exited to be assured of continuity and prosperity of our country and beyond. Those who are already doing it encourage others to join in in empowering children from our communities academically. Only then can they be of importance both in our country and the entire globe,” Matiang’i challenged professionals.

Principal Secretary (PS) for health Susan Mochache confirmed that other than assignments in the ministry of health assigned to her by the President she has also initiated a programme to support her home school, Nyaura in Kisii where she gave Sh. 54 million courtesy of professional friends from the area to help in the construction of ultra-modern classrooms for the school to enable its learners study from a conducive environment.

Professionals from around St. Kizito Nyansiongo Boys High School and other well-wishers contributed over Ksh. 22 million towards the construction of the school’s dormitory which is budgeted to cost Ksh. 39 million.
