Elders decry moral degradation

Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders have called for concerted efforts b key community development players so as to contain moral decay.

Speaking  on Monday to the media at Nchiru, Meru County Njuri Ncheke Secretary General, Josphat  Murangiri attributed the prevailing low moral standards among a majority of residents to dynamics in technology in the recent times.

Murangiri said religious, community and political leaders had an obligation to put in place workable interventions to ensure everybody was informed of the advantages and disadvantages of over using or misusing upcoming technology.

He said the most affected by the fast moving technology dynamics were the youth who more often than not indulge in the use of technology to an extent of compromising morals and discipline.

The elder regretted that most adults, including parents had abandoned the responsibility of acting as role models and mentors to the youth in a bid to lift and sustain moral standards for a safe and secure future for all.

Murangiri said many young men and women had been lured into life threatening social media relationships through their mobile phones some of them turning tragic when time comes for the truth to prevail between the two strangers.
