15,000 residents in Kitui receive title deeds

The national government has released 14,868 title deeds to owners in Kitui County in the last one month, making a monthly record of the title deeds issued to locals in recent past years.

The Lands Ministry have been working with Kitui County government especially in delivering the title deeds to their respective owners at their door step.

The 14,868 title deeds were issued in three sub counties of the Kitui. They includes 4,862 issued to land owners at  Kenze location in Kitui East Sub County, 1,866 issued to squatters at Nzalae area in Mwingi West Sub County and 8,500 to land owners at Muumoni ward in Muumoni Sub County.

Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu while handing over the title deeds to their respective owners at Kaste Market in Muumoni Sub County today, lamented that for nearly six decades since Kenya’s Independence, residents of Muumoni Ward in Mwingi North have remained without land rights due to lack of title deeds.

The governor appreciated government for the releasing the title deeds, noting that locals were now happy and relieved lot after the Lands Ministry issued them with the crucial documents.

She thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his administration for the cooperation they accorded her government in implementing the area’s land adjudication.

“It is such a pleasure to fulfill the promise I made to you in 2019. Today every land owner will receive their title deed in line with President Kenyatta’s plan to legally settle every Kenyan citizen,” she told the gathering.

The residents thanked both levels of government for coming to their aid and making them the rightful owners of their ancestral land.

“It’s such a huge relief after many decades of wait. I can now walk into a bank hall with my title deed and secure a business loan or bail out my child if arrested,” remarked Jackline Kalunge.
