County governments have been urged to align their development plans to the Vision 2030 to help the country realize her development agenda.
The Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Principal Secretary (PS), Jerome Ochieng said the Vision’s Medium Term Plan (MTP) 3 which is hinged on the big four agenda required an intergovernmental approach.
The PS underscored the need for the two levels of government to plan focused in the same direction to help achieve the big four agenda.
Speaking in Kisumu on Monday during the MTP 3 county dissemination forum, Jerome said Kenya had made great strides in the actualization of the Vision 2030 blueprint, adding that the focus on the big four was set to catapult the economy.
The MTP 3, which is a buildup on previous two plans targets to increase the country’s economic growth to 7 percent, increase productivity, blue economy, jobs creation and increase in the levels of savings.
Besides the big four, key sectors of the economy among them agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, trade business processing and outsourcing, harnessing oil and mineral resources were also targeted.
The ongoing biometric registration, he said was critical to enable the government plan more effectively and implement projects to transform the country.
He asked Kenyans to embrace the initiative and register for Huduma number to help the government achieve set development goals.
He said through the biometric registration, the government shall have access to accurate data for planning purposes.
ICT, he said, was a key enabler in helping the government to achieve development targets adding that plans were underway to set up ICT hubs at constituency level.
He said through the hubs, the government targets to enhance access to online work and in turn create job opportunities.
The project, he disclosed, is being undertaken in partnership with the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF).
“We want to start with the existing infrastructure as we seek to partner with CDF to implement this project,” he said.
The Kisumu County Commissioner, Pauline Dola called on the Ministry of Planning to employ development officer to help plan, monitor and evaluate national government projects.
The officers who served in the same capacity were absorbed by county governments leaving a gap.
