Kajiado residents benefit from free computer literacy training

Over forty Kajiado residents will benefit from the second phase of the free community Information Communication Technology (ICT) literacy programme aimed at improving computer literacy skills among adults in the community.

The community ICT literacy programme by the Ministry of Education, Directorate of Adult and Continuing Education and the Kenya ICT will equip learners with multifunction computer literacy skills in ICT integration into commerce, computer packages and the internet.

The Kajiado North sub-county Adult and Continuing Education officer Monica Naisenya has reiterated the importance of computer literacy skills for the development of the community.

“Computer literacy skills are necessary to function effectively in today’s technologically advanced world. The programme will equip residents of all ages with computer literacy skills. Learners will be awarded with certificates on successful completion of the course, “said Naisenya.

In Kajiado County, the six weeks community ICT literacy programme will be conducted at Matrix Algebra school in Ongata Rongai that provides adult literacy courses.

The Director of Matrix Algebra School Silas Musungu has said the community ICT literacy programme has a flexible timetable to enable adult learners to benefit from the programme.

“There will be two hours lessons throughout the day for the community ICT literacy programme to cater for adult learners who have work and family responsibilities. The programme will help to improve computer literacy levels in Kajiado county.” said Musungu.

Phase one of the free community ICT literacy programme equipped over 100 Kajiado residents with computer literacy skills. The programme is currently being conducted in Kajiado and Bomet counties.
