Narok county commissioner mourns kibaki

Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde has led Narok residents in mourning the late former President Emilio Mwai Kibaki, through signing of the condolences book.

Among the first to sign the condolences book were Narok County Police Commander John Kizito, who served in the Presidential security team at the time Kibaki was the President and Narok County Assembly speaker Nkoidilla Ole Lankas.

Masinde praised the third Kenyan president for his numerous achievements ranging from improving infrastructure both in urban and rural areas and providing free primary education.

“Enactment of the new constitution, building roads, diversification of banks and free primary education are among the things that we appreciated during his time in power. May he rest in peace,” he mourned.

He said Kenya was fortunate to get such a selfless leader who developed the economy of the Nation by ensuring all sectors thriving.

Lankas, who served in the tenth parliament as Narok South MP when Kibaki was in power, also recounted a couple of things on how Kibaki supported the Maa community.

“We saw the rise of infrastructure during his time. I once invited him to visit my constituency and he built dormitories for one of the schools and other facilities for my people,” he said.

He also added that during his time, with the help of Raila Odinga who was Prime Minister, they were able to put measures to conserve the great Maasai Mau forest from destruction.

Jack Karbolo, an employee at the Narok North Treasury also remembered Kibaki for the major reforms he made in the civil service that saw the employees earn a better salary and more young people employed.

“I am a beneficiary of Kibaki’s administration because I was employed when he was in power. Though physically he has left us, he will forever remain in our hearts,” he said.
