Over 1800 youth in Kajiado North and Kajiado West sub-counties have benefited from training and mentorship through the national government Ajira Digital programme.
The Ajira Digital Youth Empowerment Centre manager in Kajiado West sub-county Jackline Seleiyan has urged the youth to enroll for the Ajira Digital programme, citing its impact in creating employment opportunities for the youth.
“Youth have been equipped with skills like digital marketing and e-commerce, social media management, website creation and video captioning for free at the Ajira Digital community innovation hubs. Some of the youth trained at our centre have been employed by the Judiciary and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, ” she said.
The centre manager has said that the Ajira Digital programme has helped to improve the living standards of the youth by enabling them to earn a monthly income of between Sh15, 000 to Sh100, 000 through online work.
According to Antony Chege of Ajira Digital, the programme has helped to develop the musical careers of young artistes by providing a platform that allows them to record their music for free.
“At the same time, Studio Mashinani, a product of the Ajira Digital programme has assisted young musicians to record and produce music for free in a fully equipped music studio. There is a studio in Langata town for residents from Nairobi and Kajiado County. The only requirement is to have a Kenyan national identity card,” said Chege.
