Bonchari University Students Association (BUSA,) in conjunction with Joshua Maragia Foundation, have distributed sanitary towels to over 300 girls in Bomorenda ward, Bonchari Constituency in an effort to keep them in school.
Speaking during the function held at Botoro Primary School, the Association’s President Fred Omache said that the sanitary distribution project seeks to help the less fortunate girls in the area.
“This project on sensitization and distribution of sanitary pads to adolescent girls, is meant to ensure those who are unable to access this commodity for themselves are kept in school,” said Omache.
He urged local leaders and well-wishers from the region to partner with them in order to reach more girls in the region as a way of giving back to the society.
Omache noted they were also keen on sensitizing the girls on matters relating to gender based violence.
Moraa Benedict, the organization’s Gender Secretary, said the project will empower and uplift the girls as it will help them learn to efficiently and properly use the sanitary towels.
“This sanitary towels distribution project will help many girls to stay comfortable as they will be able to get them easily, especially for the less disadvantaged girls in the society,” added Benedict.
She expressed her gratitude to Joshua Maragia Foundation for helping them reach as many girls as possible through the project.
Esther Moraa, one of the girls who benefitted from the project pointed out that they were unable to get the pads by themselves due to financial constraints.
“I would like to thank the BUSA organization for helping those of us who are unable to afford these sanitary towels and may God bless you abundantly,” she said.
In addition, BUSA Secretary General, Wycliffe Omache noted that boys will not be left behind as they are planning to start campaigns on educating them on stress management and how to interact with others in the community.
