Public Works Principal Secretary (PS), Solomon Kitungu, has commended Bodaboda operators for turning in large numbers to register during the ongoing national registration exercise.
Kitungu lauded the riders for adhering to the government directive, aimed at streamlining the transport sector and ensure safety of both the riders and their passengers.
Speaking at the Huduma Centre in Kitui town, after witnessing the ongoing exercise, the PS noted that the two-month long initiative was being carried out at all Huduma centres across the country.
“A total of 1,030 raiders have registered at this Centre since the exercise kicked-off on 24th last month, with at least an average of 250 raiders registering daily, which is a good number,” he said.
The PS further underscored other advantages the riders will be able to gain once registered, including protection from being abused by other road users and weeding-out of criminals from their midst.
The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) will also provide a-twelve- month health cover to the first 200,000 licensed bodaboda riders across the Country.
To register, riders must present themselves in person and have an original ID card, a copy of KRA Pin Number and possess an active registered phone number.
A notification will then be sent to the registered mobile number upon processing of the registration information.
Kitungu said the registration exercise is targeting all the boda boda riders as well as motorcycle owners.
On creation of more registration centers to take registration services closer to riders being forced to travel for long distances to register at the Huduma centres, the PS said that concern will be addressed after analyzing the process and upon consultation with relevant authorities.
