Kajiado women benefit from Uwezo fund to boost their businesses

Over 3000 women in Kajiado County have benefited from the National Government Uwezo Fund aimed at providing women, youth and Persons With Disabilities (PWD’s) access to individual and group loans to enhance their businesses.

According to the youth empowerment administrative officer under the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) in Kajiado North and Kajiado West Thomas Mose, the Uwezo Fund has helped in women empowerment by facilitating many women in Kajiado County to achieve financial independence.

“In Kajiado North Sub-County, 217 women groups have benefited from the Uwezo Fund while in Kajiado West, 338 women groups have benefited. The Uwezo Fund has helped to contribute to the reduction of gender based violence by enabling women to earn an income,” said Mose.

In Kajiado North and West sub-counties, over Sh30million has been disbursed to women and women groups through the Uwezo Fund initiative to promote their economic growth.

Kajiado Women Representative Janet Teiyaa has urged women in Kajiado County to overcome all cultural and physical barriers to achieve success citing that women have the potential to succeed and contribute towards leadership and the development of the economy.

“It is possible for everyone to achieve success through dedication and hard work. I would like to encourage women in Kajiado County to work hard because they are able to overcome all obstacles to achieve success. Women need to break stereotypical gender roles and explore their talents,” said Teiyaa.

The Uwezo Fund is geared towards the realization of Vision 2030 through the Sustainable Development Goal 3 of promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women in the country.
