Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education Dr Julius Jwan has lauded politicians from Baringo for agreeing to halt their campaigns at a time when learners are sitting for the KCSE exams.
Speaking in Kabarnet town during the opening of KCSE 2021 exams container on Tuesday, Dr Jwan noted that the move was a wise decision that will allow candidates from the area facing insecurity challenges an ample time to sit for the exams in an environment where they shall be given full focus.
“We need to appreciate the leadership and all politicians from Baringo because they have agreed to support this process and ensure that the candidates finish the exams without any major challenges,” he said.
The PS who also monitored exams in four schools in Baringo North and Baringo Central sub-counties affirmed that no examination centre across the county has been moved this time round unlike a few cases during Kenya Certificate of Primary Education where over 20 centres were affected in Baringo South, Baringo North and along the Kerio Valley region.
Dr Jwan who was accompanied by County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa, County Director of Education Mwasaro Mwashegwa and other officials said despite earlier fears of insecurity challenges in the county, all the 12, 066 candidates from across the 179 exam centres have sat for their papers at their respective designated centres thanks to cooperation from the multi-agency teams and other stakeholders.
At the same time, the PS warned that electronic gadgets especially cell phones and cameras have been prohibited in all examination centres countrywide.
Dr Jwan stated that the regulation was aimed at discouraging examination cheating in terms of photographic leakages during an examination which he says can trigger dire consequences to any individual found culpable.
