Education Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), Dr. Sarah Ruto has urged parents in Nandi County to support Competence Based Curriculum (CBC), terming it a life skill learning that would address contemporary challenges facing humanity.
The CAS who was speaking at Chebarus Secondary School in Nandi Hills Sub-county, while commissioning a completed CBC classroom, said this is the best curriculum that offers children a chance to explore their passion.
Dr. Ruto added that parents are tasked with the role of providing a safe and healthy environment to enhance their learning as it determines their future by equipping learners with skills for work and skills for life.
“With the needs of the 21st Century, CBC is the best curriculum that equips children with the required skills that tackles the increased unemployment in our Country. As parents, take time to monitor the implementation through your children,” she said.
The CAS further said that parents should discuss their children’s progress with their teachers, follow up on what children are learning as well as encourage learners to participate in school activities and in asking questions pertaining to their learning, adding that CBC connects learners with a new way of thinking.
“21st century, which is a knowledge and skill age demands a new way of thinking, thanks to CBC which connect learners with the needs of the employment world. Let us advocate for this curriculum,” noted CAS.
Present at the same event was Tinderet MP Julius Melly, who said the government is committed to providing the necessary facilities for CBC to ensure implementation succeeds, parents should be at the forefront to support it.
The legislator also said that once children get the required support, then they are able to tackle their passion, adding that students should put extra effort in their academics.
“Our government is putting up structures in support of academics, but working hard has to be from learners. Students should aim higher to be able to land where they belong and therefore fit in this competitive world,” noted Melly.
During the same event, the MP issued Sh500, 000 cheque to aid in the completion of Chebarus laboratory and called upon students to strive to produce more university entry grades and even lead in the county.
