The County Government of Narok has signed an agreement with Integral Media that will see students at Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutes in the county linked to job opportunities through a digital platform.
Integral Media Director Hashington Ngigi observed that many jobs are not advertised in the local media saying there is always an opportunity for everybody who is qualified to get a job.
“For example, I once had a leaking pipe in my house and it was very difficult to find a plumber. I stayed for two days before I could get someone to fix the problem,” he said, adding that many houses and offices need such expertise but there is no available platform to connect with them.
He spoke at the County Government Headquarters where he said the digital technology will assist the students connect with potential employers hence reducing incidents of unemployment in the country.
Ngigi lauded the county leadership and the principals in various TVETs, who have already agreed to work with the company so as to create an opportunity for the learners.
“I have moved around the institutes and I have found them offering courses that are relevant in modern society. I am happy that the Principals have agreed to work with us,” he said.
Narok County Executive Member in Charge of Education and Youth Affairs, Ms Cecilia Wepali, said the new technology will be a big plus to the students who will be connected to a digital platform that exposes them to job opportunities.
She called on parents to take advantage of the TVETs that are built in all the constituencies to take their children who did not make it to the university.
“You do not need a certificate to join TVETs. These are institutions where the learners perfect their skills and can easily be self-employed despite the fact that they could not have joined primary or secondary schools,” she said.
