The County Government of Nandi in partnership with a development partner has started upgrading the Mosoriot Health facility located in Chesumei Sub County to improve health care services in the region.
The medical facility serves a huge population as it is strategically located in a center with many learning institutions among them Koitalel Samoei University, Mosoriot KMTC, Mosoriot TTC and locals.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang said the expanded hospital will have fully equipped ICU and HDU beds, modern theatres, surgical and medical wards, CT-scan and digital x-ray, ultrasound, emergency and accident area among others.
“I am very excited that I secured a development partner who is putting in resources around the health facility to a tune of Sh190 million. This is going to turn around the entire facility into a modern hospital to ease pressure on County referral hospital,” he said
Speaking in Aldai Sub County during a consultative meeting with various stakeholders, the Governor noted that the health facility will also be equipped with modern diagnostic equipment to boost the implementation of Universal Health coverage.
Once complete, the medical complex which is expected to be commissioned soon will offer relief to locals who have been travelling to Eldoret referral for specialized treatment.
In affirming his commitment to leave a legacy in the health sector, Sang stated that his administration has prioritized improvement of health facilities across the County to ensure access to affordable and quality medical services to the people of Nandi.
“We have done major infrastructure investments in most of our health centers and dispensaries. Our intention is to ensure our people do not go far away to seek primary health care services,” he said.
The Governor further noted that his administration has been able to employ more health workers in order to offer quality services.
“When we came in, we had a huge shortage of medical staff. We had only 53 clinical officers serving the entire County. As we speak right now we have raised that number to 279 clinical officers. We have also employed additional 500 nurses,” pointed out Sang.
Residents who spoke to KNA said the upgrade of the facility will save them time and money spent in private hospitals to seek specialized treatment.
“We will now be able to get specialized treatment at affordable prices within our facility instead of travelling far,’ said Leornard Koech.
