The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has launched the 2022 Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS) in Migori County.
Speaking during a courtesy call at the County Commissioner’s Office, Migori County KNBS Officer Mr. Flex Juma said that they had collaborated with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to ensure that the health survey was a success.
Juma said that the survey aimed to establish the fertility levels and contraceptive prevalence among the population as well as the basic indicators of maternal and child health.
He noted that the survey would also obtain information, knowledge, and behaviours related to the transmission of HIV-AIDs, non-communicable diseases, and other health related issues.
The official noted that the health survey sample would include the heads of the households within the age brackets of 15 to 54 and women of the ages between 15 to 49 years.
He said they have already done mapping where a total of 36 clusters have been identified. Juma added that a total of 25 households from every cluster would also be sampled in the health survey.
Juma pointed out that the KDHS was a standardised series of national level surveys that focused on the demographics and primary health care indicators.
He noted the health care that would be generated in Migori County would be useful in monitoring and evaluating demographic and health related policies and programmes both at the national and county level.
“We will be conducting this survey in all the ten Sub Counties of Migori for a period of six months,” noted Juma.
The official appealed to all Migori residents to cooperate with the KDHS data collection officials in order to make the survey a success.
Assistant County Commissioner Mr. Edwin Barasa who represented Migori County Commissioner said that health was a crucial component for government planning adding that government had a duty to ensure the safety and health of its population.
The administrator said they would work closely with the KNBS team through local administrators to ensure that the survey is successful.
