Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Mavoko sub-County have commenced investigations into rampant Bodaboda theft and killing of the riders to apprehend the criminals.
Speaking to Bodaboda officials of Mlolongo section at Mlolongo chiefs camp on Monday, the Athi river Deputy County Commissioner, Charles Wambugu said that as the DCI investigation goes on, the Mavoko sub county security committee and the Bodaboda officials are working together to devise strategies to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended.
“The DCI officials have commenced the investigations concerning the issue of motorbikes theft and murder. The security committee, with the help of Bodaboda officials, will also be alert to ensure that individuals who are involved in this crime are arrested,” he said.
The deputy county commissioner stated that the majority of the targeted Bodaboda do not have number plates.
He said they plan to meet with NTSA officials and companies that lease or sell motorbikes without number plates to determine why they do not provide the plates.
“We have discovered that the majority of stolen motorcycles have missing number plates, as a result, we will schedule a meeting with NTSA officials and companies selling or leasing motorcycles so that they can explain why they issue motorcycles without number plates,” he said.
Wambugu expressed the need of Bodaboda riders to work together with the security agencies and alert them on any suspicious characters among their fellow riders.
“In the spirit of community policing, the Bodaboda riders are going to collaborate with our OCS and his officers to be able to acquire information targeting the riders who work with the criminals,” Wambugu added.
He said the Bodaboda riders should take precautions, while being hired by strange customers especially at night and avoid carrying more than one passenger.
He reminded the Bodaboda riders to ensure that they enhance their safety by putting on their helmets and reflector jackets
Present at the meeting were the Mlolongo Assistant County Commissioner Dennis Ongaga, Sub County Security committee, DCI Mlolongo and OCS Mlolongo.
The meeting was held following the incident of the killing of a Bodaboda rider at Katani area by his passengers Friday.
According to Wambugu, the Bodaboda rider was shot by two male passengers at Katani area on Friday last week at around 8.00pm who were armed with a pistol and also stole the bodaboda.
