Kenya Prisons Service Conducts Recruitment Exercise in Kajiado

Hundreds of youths turned up, for the Kenya Prisons Service Recruitment in Kajiado Central and Isinya Sub-Counties.

Assistant Commissioner of Prisons in Nakuru Prison, Abdalla Siomi Mohammed, who was the Officer-In-Charge of the recruitment exercise, said that they will pick the best candidates. The recruitment exercise is being undertaken countrywide.

“We want to assure members of the public that the exercise will be free and fair. We will do our best to pick the very best from the candidates present,” said Abdalla.

The Commissioner revealed that only four males and two female candidates, will be picked in Kajiado Central Sub-County while six male and two female candidates are slotted for Isinya Sub-County.

He added that the criteria for selection is pegged on the inmate’s population in the country, noting that the ratio of male to female inmates is 90:100, thus the need for more male constables compared to their female counterparts.

“We try to have gender parity but it is a challenge due to the inmate population. We do have female prison constables in male prisons so that we can try to achieve gender parity,” said Abdalla.

The candidates are required to have a minimum grade of D+ and above, be physically and mentally fit, have between 18-28 years of age and have no criminal record.

Abdalla urged female candidates, who suspect that they may be pregnant at the time of recruitment to desist from participating in the exercise, as it will be a lost chance lost for the county, for someone is automatically disqualified if found to be in the condition, during medical examinations undertaken after enrollment.
