Kajiado Community Health Volunteers to receive monthly pay

Community Health Volunteers in Kajiado County will be given a monthly stipend following the passing of the Community Health Services Bill by the Kajiado County Assembly.

The bill that successfully went through contains a budgetary allocation for a monthly stipend for community health volunteers within the County.

Speaking at a meeting with Community Health Volunteers in Matasia town, Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku said that Community Health Volunteers in Kajiado County will be apportioned a monthly allowance in the next financial budget allocation, June 2022 in an initiative aimed at improving the health sector in the County.

“As a government we passed a bill aimed at improving the community health services and the main beneficiaries are Community Health Workers. Kajiado County is the first to pass a bill that states there will be a County budget allocation for community health workers,” Lenku said, adding he will ensure all Community Health Workers are covered under the National Health Insurance Fund.

The head of Community Health Volunteers in Olkeri Ward Rachael Kinyanjui has lauded the steps taken by the Kajiado County government in improving the welfare of Community Health Volunteers within the County.

“As Community Health Volunteers we face many challenges, especially commuting constraints when going to attend to sick members of the community without transport. We would also like the County government to provide us with uniforms and badges to help in identification of Community Health Volunteers by members of the community,” Kinyanjui said.

The Kajiado Community Health Services Bill, 2020 was passed after members of the public proposed a monthly stipend for Community Health Volunteers at a public participation forum in Ongata Rongai town.
