Drivers urged to keep safe in Meru

Drivers in Meru County have been urged to observe discipline in line with the existing traffic rules and regulations, to guard against road accidents.

Speaking to the media in Meru town, the County Police Commander, Nyaga Mucunku, warned crews in the public transport sector against the notorious end of year festivities culture of overloading and over speeding, which was a threat to human life and property.

Mucunku said all measures had been put in place early enough to ensure those entrusted with enforcing existing traffic laws, to do so as strictly as possible.

He also said it was very unfair for business people in transport sector to take advantage of the prevailing festive atmosphere to overcharge those travelling to various destinations for the December celebrations.

The Police Boss urged the public to avoid unnecessary travelling during this festive season, adding celebrations can be made colourful and enjoyable at the comfort and safety of their homes.

Mucunku urged parents to ensure their children, especially those in secondary schools and colleges, were contained at home and kept busy with family development and value addition activities to avoid idleness.

The Commander said law enforcing personnel was in partnership with community policing teams under the stewardship of Chiefs and their Assistants to see to it that nobody took advantage of the festive season to venture into illegal engagements, with special focus on illicit brew and counterfeit goods trade.

Mucunku appealed to the public to participate in identifying and reporting anybody suspected to be perpetrating lawlessness in any way.
